United Pacific Insurance Co. was organized in Seattle in 1928, and in 1941 they purchased the Medical Arts Building in Tacoma. They relocated their home offices to Tacoma, and for some time they were the only insurance company with their headquarters located here. St. Paul's Lutheran Church is celebrating their fiftieth anniversary. The church was organized on April 29, 1894. In fifty years St. Paul's has baptized 820 people, married 625 couples, confirmed 440 and had 585 funerals. Reverend Arthur Sydow has been St. Paul's pastor for the past 25 years (T. Junior League Peggy Strong's paintings at Union Depot. Thousands of people gathered at Union Depot in April of 1944 for the unveiling of two murals done by Peggy Strong. The Junior League presented the two murals to the Union Depot. View of massive Paul Bunyan figure. According to a reader, this mural and the accompanying mural of Babe the Blue Ox still exist and are hanging on the wall of the Wheelock Student Center dining hall on the campus of the University of Puget Sound. Four unidentified nursing students relax in the nurses' quarters at Tacoma General Hospital in March 1944. They have just received news that the recent acquisition of an entire half block across "K" Street from the hospital, will enable a nurse's home to be built in the near future. Henry Mills building progress. The Henry Mill & Timber Company began in 1925 as a sawmill plant. This photograph from March of 1944 shows Verne Sawyer, the chief announcer for KMO radio, reading copy. KMO's studios were on Broadway in the Keyes Building. KMO Radio first began broadcasting in 1922. Under owner and manager, Carl E. Haymond, the station joined the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1937. ALBUM 7.

In April of 1944 the U.S.O. Travellers Aid Service at 13th and Pacific hosted a special Easter egg hunt. The two lucky winners who found the golden eggs that were hidden in the service center each received the special prize of a free telephone call home. As four service men and two travellers aid employees listened in, Pvt. H. Shaboby (left) of Chicago, Illinois and Seaman 1/c Michael V. Moauro of Canton, Ohio waited for their calls to go through. When Seaman Moauro's mother heard her son's voice she wept, and couldn't talk to him; his father came to the phone. War bond campaign. No fireworks will be seen this 4th of July, but the War Fund drive is in full swing during the last few days of bond sales. Official war bond salesmen are out in the streets of Tacoma, encouraging people to buy war bonds so the county can meet its quota. On June 5, 1944, the War Stamp Minute Maids made an unannounced appearance at the Young Mens' Business Club luncheon to sell war bonds and stamps. They made a pleasing sight with their "V" for Victory halo hats and red, white and blue stamp boxes. The pictured men stepped forward to buy a $100 War Bond each. Pictured, left to right, purchasing their bond are George Neumeyer, Gil Gunderson, Leonard Peck, Jim Lasher and Gese Nist. In April of 1944 Eva Mahoney (second from left) posed with her three sisters, Dottie, Peggy and Donna (order not known) outside of the Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park. Two of her sisters had recently signed up to join the U.S Navy's women's reserve. Members of the Navy's Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service program were called WAVES.
