Built by Major Edward Bowes in 1908, the Bowes Building at 100 So. 9th St. has been home to a number of businesses over the years. Before 1920 it was occupied by the Pacific Building & Loan Association, and M. Schmidt & Son Merchant Tailors. In May of 1920, it was purchased by, and became home to, the Tacoma Savings and Loan. Major Bowes became nationally known for the "Amateur Hour" radio program. In the early 1990s the Bowes Building was home to the Pacific Rim Restaurant, and is currently occupied by the Comedy Underground. (TNT, 12/11/1945) TPL-803

Melovidoff orchestra group of 100. Alexander S. Melovidoff, front row left side, was a music instructor for people of all ages. He taught all orchestra and band instruments including the Hawaiian and Spanish guitar. Here we see a group of 100 of his students with their various instruments in June of 1944. In May of 1927, the big draw in Tacoma was the "Own-your-own-Home Exposition" at the Armory. One of the main attractions was the "Cottage Garden Revue" featuring 40 local girls singing and dancing to the music of Howard Epperson and his Orchestra. In this publicity photograph, members of the Epperson Orchestra are looking at sheet music for "I've Got The Girl." Sidewalk in front of Motoramp Garage. The Motoramp Garage was designed by architect A. J. Russel and built in 1925. It is five stories high and can hold 325 cars. For many years it was the largest garage in Tacoma.

Exterior of the Royal Ice Cream Co. facility, 2413-21 Pacific Ave., during its Grand Opening in October of 1927. The architectural firm of Hill & Mock designed the building. The company called it the "Sanitary Sunlight Plant" and boasted how it combined utility with economy. The large windows were designed for ventilation and sunlight.
