On June 5, 1937, over 1,000 Shriners descended on Tacoma for a spring reunion hosted by Tacoma's Afifi Temple. One of the first things that they did was organize a parade. Seven Shriners, including four flag bearers, gather in front of the Winthrop Hotel to wait for the parade to begin. A Shriners marching band is behind them.

International flavor Military Reserve Officers Ball, sponsored by the Tacoma chapter of the Reserve Officers Association February 18, 1939 at the Winthrop Hotel's Crystal Ballroom. Army, Navy and Marine officers from Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia, and nearby cities, as well as officers of the famed Seaforth Highlanders of British Columbia, dance with their partners under row of flags representing the two countries and their various regiments. Over 500 persons were expected to attend the dance. Canada was represented by officers of the Irish Fusiliers and British Columbia Hussars, as well as the Highlanders in their bright plaids. (T. International-style Military Ball held February 18, 1939 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hotel Winthrop. Military officers and wives or guests converse under the guard of three men in uniform, perhaps the Color Guard. Elaborate wallcoverings in background. Over 500 persons attended the ball hosted by the Tacoma chapter of the Reserve Officers Association. The officers represented every military branch in Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia and surrounding cities. Guests from Canada included 55 officers from the famed Seaforth Highlanders as well as the Irish Fusiliers and the British Columbia Hussars. The color guard was drawn from Ft. Morris Jaffe-Edith Brodsky held their wedding and wedding reception at the Crystal Ballroom of the Hotel Winthrop on November 3, 1946. Eleven waitresses, a chef and kitchen manager stand behind the heavily laden banquet serving table. The bride was the daughter of Phillip and Anne Brodsky. Judith Shore and Merton Glant were married June 3, 1951, in the Army-Navy room at the Winthrop Hotel. Rabbi Bernard Rosenberg officiated at the ceremony. Judith was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murry Shore and Merton was the son of Mrs. and Mrs Samuel Glant. Both the bride and groom were graduates of the University of Washington. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina-length bouffant white organdy gown with pale pink pique flower appliques on the skirt. Real estate developer Norton Clapp towers over County Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Louise S. Taylor as the two shake hands and show off their Jubilee Hats in July of 1939. Both are members of the Gyro Club which declared the wearin' of hats to be the best way to boost the city's Golden Jubilee celebration, July 16-23, 1939. 20,000 hats of all styles, shapes and colors would flood the city so that everybody had a chance to buy one, for as low as 60 cents. The club had announced plans to put old-fashioned police wagons on the streets on July 18th to spot anyone not wearing a hat and suitable "punishment" would ensue. The local Gyro Club had many prominent members including C. Val Fawcett, Harry P. Cain, W.P. Bonney and Sheriff John Bjorklund. The wedding of Shirley Claire Fields and Jack Schneidermann in the Wedgewood Room at the Winthrop Hotel. A single ring ceremony was performed by Rabbi Bernard Roseberg under a canopy of white stock and greens flanked by candelabra. The bride, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Hyman S. Fields, wore an ivory satin gown with a yoke of net and venice lace with a long train and an illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis. The groom was from Coos Bay, Oregon and was the son of Mrs. David Schneidermann. The matron of honor was the recently married Mrs. Alvin L. Fields, sister-in-law of the bride, who wore the same bridal gown at her wedding. The Junior Bridesmaid was Dorothy Fields and the Bridesmaids were Helen Gold, Mona Kleiner and Nancy Brown. The Best Man was Harold Schneidermann. The bride was a graduate of Stadium High School and received her degree in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Washington. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. The groom was a Business Administration graduate from the University of Oregon and a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. Kenworthy banquet for employees. Thomas W. Neilson, 35-year employee of Kenworthy Grain & Milling Co., was the honored guest at an informal banquet for company employees held in the Army-Navy Room of the Winthrop Hotel on May 23, 1936. Mr. Neilson, warehouse foreman, had plans to retire. Others in attendance included the branch managers throughout the state that represented the 43-year-old Tacoma business.
