Commander Jack Dempsey, the former heavyweight champion of the world, returned from Okinawa, where he was stationed with the Coast Guard, to aid in the "Mighty 7th" war bond campaign. While in Tacoma, he was guest referee for a match held at the Tacoma Armory on the night of June 5, 1945. The event sold over $1.5 million in war bonds. Standing with Commander Dempsey are (L-R) Homer Amundsen of Amundsen Gym, Robert (Buster) Arnestad, Tommy Passmore, and a unidentified young man.
