Exterior of Wheeler Osgood Company's offices. Wheeler-Osgood was known as the world's largest manufacturer of doors and plywood at this time. The company started making doors in Tacoma in 1889 and plywood in 1910, only five years after the first fir plywood was manufactured at Portland, Oregon. N.O. Cruver served as president of the company at this time. He was president for 32 years.

Fraser's store window display of a travel case, a cosmetic case and cosmetics with a decorative panel in a style reminiscent of Chagal by Vera Fraser hung in the back. Fraser's carried gifts, glassware, linens, hosiery, gloves, dinnerware, silver, jewelry, leather goods, luggage, stationery and greeting cards. Fraser's was established in 1934 by Audsley M. Fraser. Lifesaving and water safety were among the many skills taught at the special Benbow Lake Red Cross Training Center at Kapowsin in July of 1947. 112 high school students from 45 Red Cross chapters in Canada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington were sent for the special 12 day training session, including Nancy Hobbs from Tacoma and Harry Butts from Sumner. An unidentified employee of Cartozian & Sons Rug Company has hung an oriental rug to help it retain its original shape during the cleaning process. Cartozian & Sons had moved to 3320 South "G" St., the former home of Bye Thompson Motors, in July of 1947. The firm claimed the "lowest prevailing prices" in rug cleaning at $5.40 for domestics and $8.64 for orientals for 9 x 12 rugs cleaned and sized.
