Associated Oil Service Stations, Omundson & Crosby Station #633. This October, 1948 view of the service station shows the service garage with the double doors open. The station advertises Veedol Lubrication. A drinking fountain is located on the front of the building. Three gasoline pumps are available at the service island.

The Associated Oil Service Stations at 5525 Pacific Ave., station #634, was known as Charlie Walker's Associated Service Station in 1948 when this photograph was taken. This distinctive looking station was built in 1934 for Emil Muscek. It was designed by A. Gordon Lumm following the architectural ideas presented at the Century of Progress. Walker's Associated Service Station closed in the late '60s. TPL-1887

Two exterior views of Provident Building, W.H. Opie & Company, taken on October 8, 1948. The six-story brick building was built in 1903. George W. Bullard was the architect. Looking south along Pacific Avenue brings the Washington Building into view. City Cigar's neon sign is seen in the bottom right. The building was renamed the Securitiy Building ca. 1952. In addition to the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company the building served as store fronts for Savon Drugs and the Federal Finance Company. A sign for the Republican Party stretched across Pacific Avenue and admonished voters to vote for Dewey and Langlie. TPL-8637

Two exterior views of Provident Building, W.H. Opie & Company. The six-story brick building was built in 1903. Other tenants in the building were Ghilarducci's California Florists, the U.S. Veterans Rehabilitation Council, the Boy Scouts, Federal Finance, Fox Studio Photographers as well as tailors, reweavers, dentists, lawyers, a music teacher, a health clinic, insurance agents, real estate agents and an employment service. Automobiles are parked in front along Pacific Avenue.

Interior at Mueller-Harkins, new service center. Douglas Fir Plywood Association, Mrs. Link. W.C. McKewen is seen from behind while he is at work in the "Service Master" command post. Mr. McKewen is able to see the automobiles as they are driven in for servicing and he uses the microphone to communicate with other workers in the area. Pneumatic tubes are over his left shoulder for special orders and he has a full console of communication controls in front of him.

Interior at Mueller-Harkins, new service center. Douglas Fir Plywood Association, Mrs. Link. Mueller-Harkins had installed the newest methods of communicating within their service department. The new facilities for the Buick dealership included a signal-lighting system. An employee in the "Service Master" command post which was elevated over the entrance to the service area would alert staff of the needed servicing for an entering automobile by pressing the on button for the board hanging in the shop. After the automobile had been taken to the proper work area the light was turned off.

Dinner party honoring Alexander Baillie at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, Tribune, E. Knight. Alexander Baillie was one of the founders of the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in 1894 and was the club's first president. He is seen in the upper left corner next to Reno Odlin, then president of Puget Sound National Bank, holding a microphone as part of his toastmaster duties. The banquet held in his honor was expected to draw more than 150 guests.

A view of the banquet room at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club on October 22, 1948, where more than 150 guests were gathered in honor of Alexander Baillie, the venerable Scotsman who was the first president of the golf club. He is seen near the wall between the middle two sets of draperies next to banker Reno Odlin who is holding a microphone. Most of the assembled men are wearing tuxedoes, seated at tables decorated with candles and flowers.

He is standing at the microphone on the far right wall. Arthur B. Langlie ran for governor of the State of Washington in 1940, 1944, and again in 1948. He won in 1940 and 1948. Mon C. Wallgren won in 1944.

Interior progress photograph, St. Regis, McCarthy. The exterior walls of the new Kraft Paper plant have been installed and the row of "Jones Majestic" Jordans have been connected along the wall. New wrecker in front of garage, Chet Dove c/o Art's Garage. A young man sits in the driver's seat ready to take the new wrecker out for a call in this October 25, 1948 photograph. The truck has a split-glass windshield, separate headlights attached to the fenders and an open grill in the front. The name of the garage is painted on the door and the AAA sticker behind the cab indicated they are approved by the American Automobile Association.
