Tacoma's Temple Theatre was built in 1926, designed by architect A. J. Russell, the contractors were Biehn and Chalmers; the theater officially opened in October 1927. Upon the theater's opening the "Temple of Minerva" backdrop from the Tacoma Theater was presented to the new theater. This theater was originally known as the Heilig Theatre and was renamed the Temple Theatre in 1931. Temple Theatre had a seating capacity of 1,800 people. The Temple Theatre at 47 Saint Helens Ave. was built in 1926. For its official opening in October 1927 it was given the stage backdrop known as "Temple of Mionerva" by the owners of the Tacoma Theatre. The backdrop was painted by artist Thomas G. Moses in 1889 and had hung in the Tacoma Theatre for 37 years.Thomas Moses was a well known scenery painter; he died in Chicago, Illinois in 1934. The Temple Theatre is now the Landmark Convention Center. TPL-3683

St. Regis paper plant in Tacoma is the focal point of the company's expanding pulp, paper and multiwall bag operations in the West Coast. The paper mill was recently completed and is one of the largest and most modern plants in the United States. The new paper producing mill is now able to mass produce paper and offer their customers their quality product in higher volumes and lower prices. Workmen are using an "Ederer" crane to move an enormous roll of paper.

Five of the barbering students studying under E.S. West at the Tacoma Vocational-Technical School, 1101 Yakima Avenue South, were photographed in 1949 while practicing their new skills on five unidentified boys. The 1,712 hour, nine-month course in barbering was the only one of its kind offered in a vocational-technical school west of the Mississippi. Tacoma Vocational-Technical School began building their facilities in 1940. After the first wing was constructed, the schools facilities were used as a war job training center during WWII. The name of the school was changed to L.H. Bates Vocational-Technical Institute in 1969 to honor the man who was hired in 1944 to be the school's vocational training director. More than 10,000 people joined together for prayer and songs at the 1949 Easter sunrise service at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood. It was estimated to be the largest group to ever participate in local Easter worship services. A portion of the large crowd was captured through a doorway as they attended the annual sunrise service. Trumpets proclaimed dawn, and the service began shortly thereafter. (T.N.T., 4/18/49, p. 1).

Other electric signs are also visible, including: the restaurant name sign, "EAT", "Fish and Chips", and a portion of the drugstore sign in foreground. On May 11, 1949 fire trucks, equipment and fire fighters from McChord Field and from Lakewood helped extinguish the blaze that destroyed this dry cleaning establishment. Eagles. The Eagles had an all-accordion band, the first organized since before World War II. They presented a recital May 25, 1949, at Eagles Temple. The band was part of the Eagles' youth guidance program and was under the direction of Louis Nomellini (standing center, first row). The Eagles Temple, which was dedicated August 8, 1908, was at 1305 Fawcett Avenue. Names listed in the newspaper. (TNT, 5/24/1949, p.25)
