The Tacoma merchants on Broadway and Pacific Avenues sponsored the second annual Fairyland and Christmas Parade for Children which was held on the day after Thanksgiving, 1935. The first float in the parade carried Santa in a well packed sleigh pulled by two snow white reindeer. Starting near the Elks Temple at 565 South Broadway, the parade traveled down Broadway, turned east at South 13th Street and then proceeded north on Pacific. Union Club of Tacoma, 539 Broadway, in the background. The Stadium marching band led the third quadrant of the parade, followed by the Humpty Dumpty float, the Old Lady who lived in a shoe and clowns and the paraders wearing grotesque heads. (T. 1937 Daffodil Parade. Flag bearers from the Wild West Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars lead the way for the parade down Ninth Street to Pacific Avenue. They are followed by a marching band and a horseback unit. The bands represented in the 1937 parade were the Musicians Union, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) band, Lincoln High School and Stadium High School. 1937 Daffodil Parade. Lincoln Citizen's Club float carrying Lincoln Business District's special Queen and her court. Six young women wearing daffodil crowns. The float, decorated with 30,000 daffodils, won Division II honors. (T. Times, 4/10/1937, p.1)

Surrounded by an enthusiastic group of boys and girls, Jack Svendsen was one of the artists who took part in Tacoma's city wide art and handicraft program sponsored by the Metropolitan Park Board and the WPA Recreation Department during the summer of 1936. Mr. Svendsen, a Norwegian born architect and artist, was teaching the young people at McKinley Park how to make silhouette cut-outs. (T. ca. 1938. This is the mission-style, reinforced concrete building containing the Firestone Auto Supply & Service Store circa 1938. It was located at 101 Puyallup Ave. in downtown Tacoma. Built in 1929 as a tire supplier, it was remodeled in 1938 by contractor Herbert Conway, Jr.

The Foss #17 is shown carefully maneuvering a crane mounted on a Foss barge down the Puyallup Waterway in December of 1936. The Diamond B tug is in the lead. The crane is probably being delivered to the St. Paul and Tacoma Lumber Co. In the background is what appears to be St. Regis Paper Co. (Copy of photograph labelled & filed as D3015 image 4)

South 38th and Pacific, showing gas station at 3800 Pacific Ave. with two boys on bicycles at pumps. The 1937 City Directory lists this location as vacant; in 1938, it is listed as Bert & Ray Service Station, owned by Bert Nielson & Rayfield Pierantozzi. Light snow on ground, large Victorian house and smaller one. Directional signs put up by AAA point to "National Park 54" (Mount Rainier Nat'l. Park 54 miles) and Tacoma "City Center 2."

Burnett Brothers Jewelry's new location at 924 Broadway. Interior view of new store, glass display cases in walnut finish rest on marble bases down both sides. Clocks and silver are on display, counter in background. The ceiling is white with blue and tan shades and cardinal red accents and similar shades are on the walls. Martin Steffen opened the Rex Theater at 3809-11 Yakima Avenue South in 1919. In 1958, the Rex was remodeled and dedicated as the Tacoma Calvary Temple.
