KIRO crowd at Roxy for Sears style show. More than 2,000 women lined up outside the Roxy Theatre hoping to get in to see the Charmode Corsetry Style Show, sponsored by KIRO Radio and Sears. All women who got in received a card entitling them to purchase nylon hosiery at Sears. The show featured a wide array of post war undergarments (T. Times, 4/25/46, p. 7).

Jubilee Regatta Queen contestants are lined up hoping they'll take the royal title. They anxiously await the results as a radio announcer from KMO Radio gets ready to announce the winner. The Jubilee Regatta Queen contest was just one of the many Water Carnival events, the boat racing, fire boat display, water skiing show and lawn bowling tournament are also part of the fun (T. Post-war Jubilee Queen. Phyllis Hale was crowned Post-war Jubilee Queen at Wright Park. Phyllis is 17 years old and a junior at Lincoln High School. She represented the Tacoma Athletic Commission. This is the third "Royal Title" for Phyllis; she was May Queen at Stewart Junior High School and Junior Prom Queen this year at Lincoln High School (T. Times, 6/26/46, p. 1).

Tacoma Mayor C. Val Fawcett, (2nd from R), with a group of men attending the Electrical Products Banquet at the University - Union Club the evening of his June 3rd swearing in. Mayor Fawcett was already well known in Tacoma politics as he had served four terms as finance commissioner and also assumed the duties of mayor for an extended period of time when Harry P. Cain entered the Army. Val Fawcett was the son of former multi-term mayor A.V. Fawcett, nicknamed the "fightin' mayor." ALBUM 14.

Tacoma Boat just finished "Carrie", a 45 foot combination troller. The fishing boat was one of four recently finished boats. "Carrie" was built for Martin Nelson of Seattle. Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. specialized in fishing boats and were the manufacturers of "Northern Drag and Anchor Winches" (T. Times, 7/3/46, p. 3).

The west coast division of the Broderick and Bascom Rope Company brought a sample of their newest wire rope to Tacoma in 1946 to test its strength and durability. It this test, which took place at Fort Lewis Army Base, a military tank is suspended in mid air.

The troupe put on a 2 1/2 hour show under thankfully dry skies on behalf of the Young Men's Business Club. The Y.M.B.C. was raising funds for a Greater Tacoma Jubilee to be held later in June. The 40 entertainers included Skinnay Ennis and his 16-piece orchestra. Many of the performers had gone with Mr. Hope when he entertained GIs during WWII. Mr. Hope and troupe join in a song and dance, just one of the many numbers performed during the 2 1/2 hour show. One of the favorites appeared to be Ronnie Severson, the "human dictaphone," who first became known for his echo act while stationed at Fort Lewis during part of the war. The 7,500 in attendance was lower than expected disappointing promoters who had hoped to have a larger crowd; profits would be used to help put on a Greater Tacoma Jubilee the latter part of June. Mr. Hope did not let the smaller crowd influence his troupe's performance; musical and comedy bits entertained the audience immensely. Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. continued to work on their UNRRA contract. New fishing boats were being built and they were reconditioning fathometers and Northern Dragger winches on other fishing boats.
