Spalding-Welk wedding party. Inez Spalding and Gerhard Welk were married October 4, 1952 at the First Lutheran Church. They made their first home in Tillicum. The bride was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Spalding. The groom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Welk. The bride wore a gown of satin and lace in blush pink with a pink tulle veil. Her attendants were dressed in pastel green. Her sister Caroline Spalding was the maid of honor. Other attendants were Donna Jones, Doreen LeClef, Delores Welk, Mary Collings and Doris Greninger. Lois Elinor Holm and Arthur Louis Jewett were married January 26, 1952, in Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Mrs. David Curtis was matron of honor and wore a gold colored velveteen dress. Patricia Jo Holm, sister of the bride, Mrs. Robert Hansen, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Joyce Anderson were the other attendants. They wore emerald green velveteen dresses and each carried a muff with her flowers pinned on it. Mrs. Bernard Bjorkman was the matron of honor and Patricia Casper, Genevieve Stemp, and Mrs. Ernest Manning served as bridesmaids. Bert Nigro assisted his friend as Best Man. Brustad - Vandenberg wedding at Fort Lewis. Florence Eleanor Brustad exchanged vows with Lt. Robert E. Vandenberg in the Fort Lewis Chapel on February 2, 1940. She is the daughter of the J.F. Brustads and he is the son of the Eben Vandenbergs, both of Tacoma. The bride is a member of the Beta Phi Kappa sorority at whose meeting her surprise engagement was announced in January of 1940. She is also a member of the Tacoma Ski Club of which Lt. Vandenberg is the president. He is currently an aide to Brig. General Maurice Thompson at Camp Murray. Ride on muleback of Lt. Jack Murphy and his bride at Fort Lewis on April 12, 1941. Date is probably incorrect as Salt Lake City natives Lt. Jack M. Murphy and his bride wed on February 22, 1941. His fellow officers wanted to help celebrate but due to inclement weather, this unique method of mule riding was not accomplished until March 9th. The bride and groom are pictured above, each strapped and in wicker chairs aboard a patient mule. They were then led on quite a ride to the Officers Club for a reception. (T. Herbert Lim was the son of Gordon and the late Mrs. Lim, of Vancouver, B.C., and he had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Burma and India as a paratrooper. Miss Lenna Sang was her sister's maid of honor. George Chong was the best man. The bride and groom pose with their parents and the bride's attendant.
