The mailing room of the Tacoma Times on September 14, 1939, the date of the last running of the old press in the building at 9th & Pacific Ave. The paper would be moving to a new location, 919 Market St. Pictured are Mailroom Foreman William Bowers, left seated; directly behind him is Fred Bowers. To the right of the foreman are mailers William Blauvelt and Charles Cassidy. The mailroom is the first department to receive the paper "hot off the presses." They prepare it for distribution. (T. This May 1939 advertising photograph shows the wide range of Ford commercial vehicles sold by Titus Motor Co. on display in front of the Victorian style Seymour Conservatory at Wright Park. The glass conservatory, one of only three on the West Coast, was a gift to the citizens of Tacoma by Tacoman businessman William W. Seymour. The building, designed by I.J. Knapp, opened in November of 1908 and gave the average Tacoman their first glance at the foliage of the tropics. In 1938, Leon Titus, a 25 year veteran in the automotive sales business, got his foot in the door in Tacoma by being awarded the downtown dealership of Ford, Ford Mercury and Lincoln Zephyr. The dealership moved into the old Pacific Car Co. building at 618-624 Broadway, where they remained until the mid 1960's. As a boy, Leon Titus had worked for the Marmon-Nordyke Co., manufacturer of the Marmon automobile. The Titus family is still heavily involved in the automotive business today. Santa Claus exits his Packard automobile in the 5200 block of South Tacoma Way to greet the children who have been patiently waiting for a glimpse of him. He is on his way from the Mueller Harkins airport, where he arrived by plane, to the Peoples Store, to listen to all the kiddie's wish lists for Christmas. A Griffin Fuel Company driver filled the heating oil tank at the Sears Exhibition Home at 1920 North Union Avenue on October 9, 1937, the day before the house opened for public viewing. The building was not a Sears "kit" house. It was designed by Stanley T. Shaw, architect, and built with material purchased in the Tacoma area. By building this demonstration house, Sears hoped to show what could be done locally to create a modern, comfortable and convenient home. All the furnishings throughout the building's eight rooms were supplied by Sears, as were the heating, electrical and plumbing supplies. Over three October Sundays, nearly 16,000 people toured the house. (T. Times, 10/9/1937, p. 5)

Some 75 Grunow refrigerator dealers and salesmen from Tacoma and Southwest Washington were invited to attend a dinner at the Tacoma Hotel on February 18, 1937 hosted by the F.B. Connelly Co. The 1937 Grunow model was on display , and "Miss Grunow," an attractive woman wearing a short dress and banner, danced on top of the tables for the delighted group. A banner in the background advertises: "There's a new Grunow refrigerator. Come see it today." (TNT 2/18 & 19/ 1937)
