ca. 1926. In 1926, according to the City Directory, Beutel Business College was located at 937 1/2 Broadway in the Anderson Building, which has since been demolished. Other businesses at this location included the Mode-Art Apparel Store, Lewis Brothers Clothing and the Electro Dental Parlors. The slogan for Beutel was "Best by Test of more than thirty years." The school was founded in 1887 by John Tate, making it the oldest commercial school in Tacoma and southwest Washington. It was originally known as Tacoma Business College. C.F. Beutel, who gave the school his name, purchased partial interest in the school in 1902. (filed with Argentum)

College of Puget Sound Adelphian Chorus dressed in new Latvian costumes for their Northwest tour. The chorus will be attired in native costumes during a portion of their Spring concert tour. The newest music group at the College of Puget Sound goes by the name of the "Conservatory Quartet." It's that wacky time again, time for the 12th annual Freshman Stunt Night at the College of Puget Sound, presented under the supervision of the Department of Dramatic Art. History will never be the same after September 20, 1940 when the Freshmen take aim at George Washington, Helen, Paris and the Trojan Horse, among others. Pictured left to right are Norma Gagliardi, Walter Ebbett, Aldo Benedetti (kneeling), Kay Copeland, Beverly Birdsall and Jack Miller. The four skits to be presented to students and the public are "George Washington's Life Story, Sort of Chopped Up by the Little Hatchet with which He Carved Out the United States," "Paris, This is It" (the love story of Helen, Paris and the Trojan Horse), a Baby Contest and "Spot Cash," the story of a fifty dollar bill as it changes hands. On November 8, 1940, the freshmen presented Booth Tarkington's comedy "The Travelers" before a student assembly. The cast included Art Sheets, Ruth Hanawalt, Roberta Humble, Ed Ercegovic, George Victor, Dorothea Federico, Bob Albertson, Gordon Soder, Everett Lowther, Patricia Hanson and Frank Hicks. Bill McLaughlin, College of Puget Sound track athlete. Mr. McLaughlin competed for the college in the shot put. In 1941, he won his three year sweater for his years of competition for the school. Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was named after Dr. Edward H. Todd, in honor of his many years of service to the school. College of Puget Sound had many new additions in mind for the future, hoping to make CPS one of the nicest and most modern liberal arts colleges in the Northwest. Dr. Olaf M. Jordahl, Ph. D. (background) taught physics and mathematics, engineering majors usually had classes with him. Since the new Science Hall opened, students at Pacific Lutheran College had some of the most modern science equipment available to them, which made the classes better than before. Pacific Lutheran College had just dedicated their new $200,000 Science Hall in 1947. Classes were now being taught in the building, which had modern, fully equipped labs available in the classrooms. The new building enabled students to get hands on experience in the science field. View of students in a classroom with microscopes and lab tables, the instructor is Verner L. Johnson (standing, left), Master of Science, Biology. Professor Johnson spent two years at PLC from 1946-48 following his release from service at Fort Lewis. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in zoology at Washington State College (later named Washington State University) in 1953 and joined the faculty at the school's College of Veterinary Medicine the same year. CPS Alumni. Cynthia Thompson is working with a young man making plastic boxes. The therapist is measuring the opening of the box while the young man had a piece of plastic with a backing on it held in a vice. Another man is working on a project behind them. Cynthia Thompson's uniform has a University of Wisconsin badge on the sleeve. She was taking a 10 month field training program at Madigan General Hospital.

CPS Alumni. A graduate of the Occupational Therapy program at the College of Puget Sound is working with a young man with rounds of sheet metal at a bench. The occupational therapist is showing him how to pound the metal into a specific shape using a wooden form. Examples of what can be made from sheet metal are shown on a shelf above the work table. One of the pieces has spelled out the name, "Cynthia". An open cupboard contains metal working tools. The young woman is using a ball peen hammer to finish a piece and the man is using a leather-faced forming mallet.

Students (all men) work in a science lab with microscopes, slides, rocks, test tubes and small bottles of different solutions. A motar and pestle sits on the table for students to use to grind materials with which they want to experiment further. Jars of labeled materials sit on shelves around the room and gas lines are also seen against the wall to provide flame for certain kinds of experiments.
