On the left is the Commerce side of the 1700 Block of Jefferson, including left to right 1731-37 Tacoma Biscuit & Candy Co. building (now Old Spaghetti Factory) and 1721-25 "Dugan Block" (now One Broadway Square.) The middle left building is the Carlton Hotel, 1552 Jefferson.

ca. 1979. Photograph taken in 1979 of the Aerie (hang gliders) located at 1527 Commerce, on the Commerce side of the Crystal Palace Building (1508-16 Jefferson), built in 1889. The Aerie was not listed in the City Directory, indicating that it was a short time business at this address. In fact, it appears to be boarded up and abandoned in the photograph.

Dedicated in 1913, the $600,000 steel truss lift-span bridge provides a link between the downtown business district and the industrial Tideflats area. It was renamed for Mr. Morgan, perhaps the Northwest's foremost historian, in 1997.

Dedicated in 1913, the $600,000 steel truss lift-span bridge provided a link between the downtown business district and the industrial Tideflats area. It was renamed for Mr. Morgan, perhaps the Northwest's foremost historian, in 1997. In 2007, the bridge was once again closed to traffic.

ca. 1979. View of native American style graphics on the window glass of the Anchor Tavern, 1352 Pacific Ave., as well as a neon representation of the emblem for Rainier Beer. The Tavern was located in the former McCormack Bro. Department Store, 1348-56 Pacific Ave, in 1979. McCormack Bro. was located in the Baker-Dickson Building; constructed in 1911, Russell & Babcock, architects. The building was demolished in 2003.

ca. 1979. The gaily striped awning decorates the exterior of Tutor Craft Interiors at 1531 Market St. In 1979, a newly remodeled store had opened following a disastrous fire in Jan. of 1978. The business had opened in 1944 and specialized in custom draperies.
