Engine round house at Northern Pacific Railway, Elwin Barker. The North Coast Limited first went into service April 29, 1900. This passenger train was the pride of the Northwest Pacific. In the Pacific Northwest, the NP was the first railroad to offer sleeping and dining cars. As a passenger going from eastern Montana to western Washington, you would move across the flat lands of eastern Montana, across the Rocky Mountains, through valleys in Idaho and Washington, climb over the Cascade Mountains, and drop into the shipping port of Seattle. A second home was moved from slide-imperiled Salmon Beach during high tide on May 17, 1949, to property near Point Fosdick. Photographer Bob Richards joins talented dance instructor Nancy Jane Bare in a high flying leap to demonstate how strobe lights could be used to freeze action without blurs. The couple resemble marionettes as they dance across the stage at Annie Wright Seminary in May of 1949. Using strobe lights, the Richards Studio cameras could freeze action at 1/10,000th second. Nancy Jane Bare taught hundreds of students while at Annie Wright Seminary, the University of Puget Sound, and Charles Wright Academy. At the time of this May, 1949, photograph, she had been a faculty member of Annie Wright for five years.

Tacoma Sculpturing Club has helped many homemakers become interested in wood carving as a hobby. The club meets regularly in the Bryant Creative Art Center at Bryant School. During World War II the club members volunteered with the Red Cross arts and crafts unit. The Town of Fircrest completed a five-year program to beautify winding Regents Boulevard in May of 1949 by planting a flowering Kwanzan cherry tree near the fire hall at 302 Regents Blvd. This brought the total number of trees planted through the work of Mayor Nelson J. Morrison and members of the Fircrest, Greenwood and Flowercrest Garden Clubs to over 150. The trees were planted by Fircrest employees.
