Schillinger-Rouse wedding. Rev. Eldon Lyso of Seattle officiated at the wedding of Susan Lynn Schillinger and Richard Warren Rouse on June 19, 1971, at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor. The couple are pictured in the act of lighting candles. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald W. Schillinger of Vaughn. She attended Pacific Lutheran University where she was a member of the Homecoming court and graduated from Clarke College in Iowa. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rouse of Kirkland. He is a Pacific Lutheran University graduate and is studying for the Lutheran ministry. The newlyweds will make their first home in Waverly, Iowa. Photograph ordered by Mrs. R.W. Schillinger. The groom and best man wear white tuxedos while the maid of honor appears to be dressed in a V-necked tulle gown in this sepia 1951 photograph. The Friedlines were married in late August in the First Christian Church.

Slusher-McCarthy wedding. The Church of the Visitation was the site of the Maxine Slusher/Edward McCarty nuptials on October 13, 1951. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Father Anslem. The bride wore a ballerina length gown of white satin with an overdress of net and a lace apron. Her fingertip veil was edged with lace and attached to a coronet which contained seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis. (TNT 10-28-51, D-2)

The Dutch hat styled lace headdress was attached to a waist length veil and she carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds and carnations. The groom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marco Panich of Ironwood, Michigan. The couple was attended by PFC and Mrs. Gene R. Michael. The matron of honor wore a yellow organdy gown and matching hat. The reception was held at the quarters of Sgt. and Mrs. Dale Barker. The couple made their first home in Tacoma. Microsoft mogul Bill Gates' parents' wedding. The happy couple cut their wedding cake after the Seattle ceremony. Both William Henry Gates, Jr. and Mary Maxwell Gates came from extremely successful families. Mary's great grandfather James Willard Maxwell moved to Washington in the late 19th century where he served as President of a bank, two terms as Mayor and was elected to the State Legislature. When he moved to Seattle before World War I, he became a prominent banker. Mary Maxwell grew up with some of the most important and famous families in the Pacific Northwest. Bill Jr. grew up in Bremerton, also in a well to do family, and became the City Attorney for Bremerton before entering the Seattle law firm of Skeel, McKelvy, Hanke, Everson and Uhlmann. Mary became a school teacher until the couple started their family and later served on corporate boards including United Way, University of Washington and First Interstate Bancorp. Rosemary Tollefson and Ardeis Harold Myers, Jr. held their wedding reception at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club. The bride and groom are ready to cut their wedding cake. The large cake, in the shape of a cross, is made up of square cakes with four on each side of the central, highest tier of cakes. Flowers decorate the base of the cake and bride and groom figurines under a bell decorate the top. A gladiola bouquet is next to the cake table. The bride's satin dress shimmers in the light; her curved neckline is decorated with lace. Lace appliques have been added to her veil. Rosemary's bridal bouquet is seen on the table next to the cake. 600 guests were invited to the wedding, making it one of Tacoma's largest of the season. (TNT 8-21-49, D-1)

Congressman Thor Tollefson with his daughter Rosemary on the occasion of her marriage to Ardeis H. Myers, Jr., of Kansas City, MO, at Tacoma's Central Lutheran Church. They are seen here during the reception held at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club. It was one of the largest weddings of the season which saw 600 guests in attendance at the double-ring candlelit ceremony. The bride had ten attendants, all dressed alike in Empire-styled models of chartreuse velvet. She wore an ivory satin gown with fitted bodice and stand-up collar, accessorized by orange blossoms in her silk illusion fingertip veil. The new Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Stadium High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO.
