Scope and content
- View of the Central Court at the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition (AYPE) in Seattle. This fair took place June-October, 1909 on the site of the present-day University of Washington campus. It featured the commerce and culture of the Pacific Northwest, Alaska/Yukon, and the Pacific Rim regions, and was meant to be both edifying and entertaining. The United States Government Building is at center, behind the Cascades waterfall and the Alaska Monument. The domed U. S. Building is surrounded (from left to right) by the European, Alaska, Hawaii/Philippines, and Oriental Buildings. When the fair ended, very few of the magnificent exhibition buildings were retained for use by the University. Most of the AYPE buildings were constructed lightly from lathe and plaster, and not built to last. The government buildings shown here were sold for scrap. circa 1909.
- Printed on front: Cascades and United States Government Bldgs.
