- Homesteaded in 1879, and incorporated in 1913, Enumclaw, in King County, still is known for dairy farms and agriculture. The Indians used the name for a mountain in the hills about six miles north. The name Enumclaw has been variously translated as meaning "Place of the Evil Spirits" or "thunder and lighting.".
