American Institute of Architects, Southwest Washington Chapter, in the Wedgewood Room at the Winthrop Hotel. Most Tacoma and Seattle architects are pictured here, some with spouses. In the foreground of the picture, left to right, are Si Nelson, Percy Ball, Rod O'Hiser, Marshall Perrow, James Wilson and future mayor Gordon Johnston. Seated on the right side of the room, directly under the palm tree wall decoration are Hubert and Betty Bisson. Mr. Bisson was an architect, and later associate, for the well-known Tacoma firm of Lea, Pearson & Richards. Mr. Bisson worked for them for over 20 years until his death in 1971. He designed many of Tacoma's banks and schools for the firm. Ordered by the Tacoma News Tribune. The UU Women's Christmas Tea was scheduled for December 11th, 1953 from 3-5p.m. The tea had a silver Christmas motif. 40 et 8 Parade, Times, Sandegren. The American Legion, Department of Washington, held its annual convention in Tacoma starting August 25, 1948, for a four-day meeting. The second day of the convention the 40 et 8 auxilliary held their Goof Parade through downtown Tacoma. 40 et 8 Parade, Times, Sandegren. The Paul Bunyan entry in the American Legion's 40 et 8 auxiliary's Goof Parade included Babe the Blue Ox with Paul Bunyan astride her. A group of bewhiskered axe-wielding loggers accompany them in the parade. They have stopped to pose in front of the Northwest Airlines office on the corner of 9th and Pacific Avenue. This view shows the drum and bugle corps marching in their nightshirts. Some wear sleeping caps as well. They march along Pacific Avenue in front of the North Pacific Bank Note Company above Puget Sound Auto Electric and Western Auto Supply Company. 40 et 8 Parade, Times, Sandegren. The 40 et 8 auxiliary of the American Legion was known as the fun group. As part of the Goof Parade men, dressed as women wearing mops for hair, dresses, and on one case, women's underwear on top of long johns, march and play drums and cymbals. They are seen here along Pacific Avenue in front of Puget Sound Auto Electric (wholesale radios at 707 Pacific Avenue) and Bergh-Griggs Company (plumbers at 709 Pacific Avenue).

As part of the American Legion's 40 et 8 auxiliary's Goof Parade held August 26, 1948, the greenhorns who were to be initiated into the mysteries of the Bunyan tribe wore sackcloth fashions and showed a bit of leg. Barn yard dance at Woodbrook Hunt Club, Lakewood Orthopedic Club, Mrs. VanWinkle. "Calico Capers" was sponsored by the Lakewood Orthopedic Association on April 24, 1948. Hay and spring flowers decorated the club. "Gals in gingham and lads in jeans" danced to old-time music and more contemporary music. Here we see Thelma and William M. Busch dancing to the music. Bob Hager led the group in square dances. The Lakewood Guild was one of the newer of the 37 guilds associated with the Tacoma Orthopedic Association. In 1948, three women Amvets members discuss world events over drinks and cigarettes. They were with a group of one hundred and thirty Amvets attending a banquet at the Winthrop Hotel. The guest of honor was National Commander Edgar C. Corry who spoke on the topic "Peace Through National Preparedness." (T. Times, 5/12/48, p. 3).

The Juniors met sequentially with the parent organization. This was the first time in ten years that the Red Cross Convention was held on the Pacific Coast. Smorgasbord dinner at University-Union Club, Quentin Schmitt, University-Union Club. The University-Union Club held their 5th annual smorgasbord April 19, 1948. The planning committee wore Scandinavian costumes and a native accordianist played. The committee is standing behind the buffet that beautifully displayed the Scandinavian foods. Names listed. The Tacoma Girl Scouts held a Fashion Revue at the Temple Theater on March 20, 1948. The proceeds would benefit the St. Alban's Girl Scout Camp. The Girl Scouts showed traditional and new scouting clothes as well as sports outfits and fashion clothes furnished by Rhodes Brothers Department Store. Background music was provided by Arnold Levenenze at the organ. Four young girls and boys wearing their Sunday best and two teenage girls wearing two-piece bathing suits wait in the sidelines, with four women organizers, for their turn on the runway. Tacoma Art League was presenting the work of Colonel C. Ross Greening at the Washington State Historical Building. Colonel Greening painted his graphic paintings while in a German Prison Camp. Colonel Greening was the inventor of the "10 Cent Bomb Site", this technique was used by Colonel James Doolittle in his Tokyo raid. View of Colonel C. Group of Camp Fire Girls meet at Mason Methodist Church. The Camp Fire Girls honored local leaders at the Fire Maker Tea at the Mason Methodist Church on January 24, 1948. They honored two Tacoma women who had made contributions to the community: Mrs. Charles Mason who brought points of opera interest to the girls and Pansy D. (Mrs. W.W.) Wild West Club was located in Crawford's Sea Grill Restaurant, a two story concrete blocks and glass, 275 person capacity building. Crawford's became very popular with Tacoma residents and tourists, especially after they added a unique terrace room in 1950. They completely enclosed a room with glass, which hung over Stadium Way, overlooking Commencement Bay. View of piano player at the Wild West Club.

Wild West Veteran's Club was operated by the Wild West Home Corporation. John Taylor was President, Fred Brining was Vice President and Oscar J. Olson was Secretary Treasurer of the Wild West Home Corporation, which was also located at the same site. The Wild West Taxi Company was also based out of Crawford's Restaurant. Wild West Veteran's Club was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Wild West Post Number 91. The club was only listed in the 1947 Tacoma City Directory at this location, in the 1949 Tacoma City Directory the club is listed as being located at 260 South 5th Street. For the second November in a row, the Tahoma Guild of the Tacoma Orthopedic Association in 1947 set out "Wishing Candles" in many restaurants as a fund raiser for a much needed children's hospital in Tacoma. International Gyro Club members at Point Defiance park. Howard Crothers, Gyro Club. The international convention came to Tacoma for one day of their four-day convention from Seattle on August 15, 1947. The Gyro Club delegates arrived in Tacoma by boat, toured Point Defiance Five Mile Drive, enjoyed a water carnival staged at Point Defiance pavilion and had salmon dinner before returning to Seattle.
