The Tacoma Drama League had a full program of plays scheduled for the 1934-35 season. The first production was a revival of the old fashioned melodrama "The Streets of New York". In their effort to recreate the true atmosphere of an old time play, special scenery, costuming and lighting had to be designed and constructed. From 1933 through 1939 the Tacoma Little Theater productions were presented on the stage of the Slavonian Hall at 2306 No. 30th St. In 1940 they moved to their current home at 210-12 No. I St.

Celebration of the 1939 National Boy Scout Week. Sea Scout Willard Hoveland of Ship 110 is illustrating to Cub Scout Kenny Johnston of Cub Pack 6 how rope knots are tied. Knot tying instruction was one of the planned activities for the weekend celebration of Scout Week. Scouting was founded in 1907 in Britain by Robert Baden-Powell. Pausing in front of the Titus Motor Co., 618-24 Broadway on July 12, 1939, was a Cooney Transfer & Storage Co. flatbed truck with a bevy of young women aboard. They were taking part in the Rainbow Girls Parade and represented Yakima Assembly. The truck carried a basin labeled "Fountain of Youth" that was carefully tendered by the girls.

Pioneer Association meeting at Steilacoom Town Hall; Federal Revival style building by Emanuel J. Bresemann, Architect, built in 1930. On October 11, 1939, the Pierce County Pioneer and Historical Society held their fall meeting in Steilacoom at the Town Hall. The members dressed in their ancestor's period clothing for the event. Between 1850-1858, Steilacoom was home to the first territorial court and the first Protestant Church north of the Columbia river. In May of 1940, Ruth Babbit was photographed swinging into the spring golfing season at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. Every Tuesday was Ladies' Day at the Club, and over 50 female members took the opportunity to practice their follow through on the links. Ruth Kennedy Babbit was the wife of Alexander Babbit, then assistant manager of the Bank of California National Association. Mrs. Babbit also excelled in figure skating, later becoming an international skating judge, and was a well known water color artist. She passed away on August 31, 1992, at the age of 89. (T. Co-Ed Daffodil Dance at Hotel Winthrop on March 22, 1941. The Co-Ed Club annually hosted the opening ball of the Daffodil Festival, held immediately following the coronation. Posing with their bicycles outside the Lakewood Community Center in September of 1940 were seven Lakewood-area music lovers: (in no particular order) Mrs. R.W. McMahon, Mrs. Bert Sweeting, Mrs. William Panman, Mrs. George Hellyer, Mrs. Brian Shera, Mrs. W.W. Williver and (believed to be) Anne Baker. These ladies were part of a volunteer committee involved in the Tacoma Philharmonic Association membership drive. Several of them were also part of a local music appreciation study group and they used their bicycles to travel to each other's homes for meetings. (T.Times 9-14-40, p. 5)

The room is swaying to the swinging sounds of Stan Miskoski and his orchestra at the University Union Club's Sadie Hawkins dance on March 15, 1941. The orchestra is attired in keeping with the Dogpatch theme of the Club's first costume ball in two years. Sadie Hawkins Day was an American Folk event started by Al Capp in his Li'l Abner comic strip. Decades before women's liberation, it was the day when emboldened females could ask out the man of their choice.

Washington State Pharmaceutical Association State Convention - Tacoma - July 14-17, 1940. Large group of men seated on roof top. Some 400 druggists were expected to attend the Tacoma convention held at the Winthrop Hotel including P.H. Brady, chairman of the Washington State Board of Pharmacy. Election of new officers chosen for the upcoming year saw a Tacoman, Everett Riser, selected as president of the association.
