On June 5, 1937, over 1,000 Shriners descended on Tacoma for a spring reunion hosted by Tacoma's Afifi Temple. One of the first things that they did was organize a parade. Seven Shriners, including four flag bearers, gather in front of the Winthrop Hotel to wait for the parade to begin. A Shriners marching band is behind them.

Thousands of spectators crowded the streets of Tacoma to watch the Tacoma Jubilee parade on June 25, 1946. Many of the floats carried candidates for the title of Jubilee Queen, including this old touring car sponsored by Griffin Fuel Company. It carried "Lulubelle". The men in the car stated "Lulubelle was a little too fresh." Lulubelle is really Einar Stenhommer, next to Lulu is Len Wilson, driving the car is Lyle Olson and on the right is Ralph Lewis . Tacoma enjoyed the 1939 Washington State Golden Jubilee celebration so much that the city decided to hold a Jubilee in 1946 that commemorated absolutely nothing. (T. Times, 6/26/46, p. 1).

Although it rained for a good part of the Post-war Jubilee parade, over 1000 people showed up to see the festivities. View of American Legion Post No. 138 parade float. Tacomans turn out in droves at 11 a.m. on August 22, 1936 to see the first circus parade in years, passing by the Roxy Theatre, 901 Broadway, now known as the Pantages. The Cole Brothers- Clyde Beatty Circus is in town, featuring young wild animal trainer Clyde Beatty. Marquees indicate the Roxy Theatre, the Music Box, at 902-14 Broadway, destroyed by fire 4/30/1963, and the Rialto, 310 So. 9th. In the back right of the photo is the First Baptist Church, 902 Market St.

Two white horses pulling a four-wheeled sulkey and driver proceed up Ninth Street in the Cole Brothers- Clyde Beatty Circus parade. Palomino horses with riders carrying American flags follow behind the two-horse team. A large crowd of spectators watch the parade. This was the first circus procession in Tacoma in years and it was to announce the arrival by train of the Circus, which would be making a one day stop in Tacoma with performances in the afternoon and evening. The show would pitch tents on the Union Pacific RR circus grounds, opposite Union Station and across the 15th Street Bridge.

A circus wagon pulled by an eight horse team turned the corner at South 9th Street and Pacific Avenue as hundreds of Tacomans lined the parade route and watched. The Cole Brothers-Clyde Beatty circus came to Tacoma in August of 1936 for a one day stop. With 1,080 performers and support staff and over 800 animals, including 30 elephants, the circus had the population of a good sized town. The featured performer is young Clyde Beatty, noted wild animal trainer. (T. Times 8/21/1936, pg. 13)

Griffin Fuel Company along with many other prominent Tacoma business and organizations were getting ready the the annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Parade. Their float was covered in daffodils and was using the Harem motif, but would also include the infamous "Lulubelle Griffin", a regular in the Tacoma parade scene. Ed Griffin was President of Griffin Fuel Company in Tacoma.

The Daffodil Festival would continue through the weekend with dances and a water regatta. Puyallup Valley's Daffodil Festival Parade along Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma was a great success. A pet parade was sponsored by the Tacoma Lincoln Lions' Club July 26, 1947. The parade started at Lincoln Park and then proceeded through the business district. Awards were presented to contestants by business people of the Lincoln shopping district with free ice cream and balloons for all. Here a wagon, pulled by two matched horses, advertises Carstens Meats and their Lucky Dog Dog Food Contest.The lucky person to submit the best slogan for Lucky Dog would win $200. Tacoma's Community Chest Parade officially kicked off the 1947 fund raising campaign. Thousands of people gathered on Pacific Avenue to enjoy one of the most colorful parades in Tacoma history. Tacoma businesses, organizations and community members gathered together in the hopes of making it a successful campaign.
