Mrs. Skupen has worn a dress with a ruffle at the hem that gathers in the back into a flowing drape of fabric. She is wearing a fur stole and a hat that matches her dress. Ardeis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ardeis H. Myers of Kansas City, Missouri. Six hundred guests were invited to the double-ring ceremony.The bride and groom stand at the altar surrounded by their attendants. Baskets of white gladiolus and stock decorate the altar behind them. Cornils-Conrad Wedding. The bride, Shirley Cornils, and her flower-girl stand at the altar each holding a large bouquet of flowers. The bride is wearing a white moire taffeta dress with full, long sleeves with a beaded cuff. The tight bodice buttoned down the front to the extended waist. The skirt is very full with a bustle back which falls into a long train curving out over the steps up to the altar. Miss Shirley Cornils and Mr. Jack L. Tollefson-Myers Wedding. Congressman Thor Tollefson (far right) and wife Eva with Mr. and Mrs. Ardeis H. Myers of Kansas City, Missouri, visit during the reception held at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club following the marriage of their children, Rosemary Tollefson and Ardeis H. Myers, Jr. The younger Myers is a student at the University of Missouri in Columbia and his new wife a graduate of Stephens College. Rosemary Tollefson and Ardeis Harold Myers, Jr. held their wedding reception at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club. The bride and groom are ready to cut their wedding cake. The large cake, in the shape of a cross, is made up of square cakes with four on each side of the central, highest tier of cakes. Flowers decorate the base of the cake and bride and groom figurines under a bell decorate the top. A gladiola bouquet is next to the cake table. The bride's satin dress shimmers in the light; her curved neckline is decorated with lace. Lace appliques have been added to her veil. Rosemary's bridal bouquet is seen on the table next to the cake. 600 guests were invited to the wedding, making it one of Tacoma's largest of the season. (TNT 8-21-49, D-1)

Congressman Thor Tollefson with his daughter Rosemary on the occasion of her marriage to Ardeis H. Myers, Jr., of Kansas City, MO, at Tacoma's Central Lutheran Church. They are seen here during the reception held at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club. It was one of the largest weddings of the season which saw 600 guests in attendance at the double-ring candlelit ceremony. The bride had ten attendants, all dressed alike in Empire-styled models of chartreuse velvet. She wore an ivory satin gown with fitted bodice and stand-up collar, accessorized by orange blossoms in her silk illusion fingertip veil. The new Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Stadium High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Elks, Emmett T. Anderson, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks.The "Scotch Kilties" band of Fort Lewis were featured during the parade welcoming Emmett T. Anderson home from the National Elks Convention. The parade has stopped at the intersection of 9th and Broadway by the Roxy Theatre to allow the Scotch Kilties to perform intricate maneuvers. Band members wear traditional Scottish attire and play drums and bag pipes. The theater was showing "The Girl from Jones Beach" starring Ronald Reagan. (TNT, 7/28/1949, p.1)

Opening of 38th Street, Tribune. Mayor C.Val Fawcett cut the ribbon and formally opened the improved 38th Street district on June 17, 1949. A police motorcade is traveling with the mayor's automobile along the parade route as spectators on both sides of the street look on. The American Legion drum and bugle corps gave a brilliant performance with marching and music. (TNT, 6/19/1949, p.1)

Helen Ruth Lydia Ramstad and Orville Eldon Kyllo were married August 20, 1949, by Miss Ranstad's father, Rev. A.W. Ramstad. The bride and groom stand by their wedding cake ready to cut the first piece. The cake has three circular layers in the center with four square cakes evenly spaced around it. Four tall, tapered candles are spaced decoratively around the cake; which has bride and groom figurines on top. The reception took place at the church parlors. The bride wore her mother's veil. All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup was the setting for the Kathlene O'Connell-Dell Thurston wedding in August, 1950. The bride had two attendants and the groom, three. This view, shot from the rear of the church, shows the beautiful painted murals and large side altars with statues of the Sacred Heart and Mary with baby Jesus.

Portrait of bride and eight bridesmaids. Dressed in lace and satin, this smiling bride apparently had a very large and elaborate wedding. Janice Marie Ludwig became the bride of Richard D. North on September 12, 1950, during an evening ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church. The bride's satin wedding gown had pointed sleeves of Chantilly lace and she carried a bouquet of stephanotis and white orchids. There are eight attendants, all dressed similarly in sleeveless white tulle with transparent stoles; Marjorie Ludwig was her cousin's maid of honor. Janice Marie Ludwig and Richard D. North were married during an evening ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church; the candlelight wedding was a large one with the bride and groom each having eight attendants. Tacoma Vocational School presented diplomas to 123 graduates from apprenticeship into the journeymen classification in 1950. The graduates were in 21 crafts. Each man had completed related instruction through facilities of Tacoma Vocational-Technical School as well as the required number of hours of on-the-job training. 1950 graduation class from Tacoma Vocational School. Tacoma's Vocational-Technical school held an open house that was highlighted by the graduation exercises. The facilities of the school including the distributive education class, the radio broadcast studio for KTOY, the restaurant trades department and the business education department. The pointed bodice was enhanced by a lace peplum and lace cascading down the back panel of the full skirt extended to a court length train. She wore a floor-length mantilla of French lace.
