  • The bathing beach, shown here, at Port Defiance Park on the Commencement Bay side of the park in Tacoma was later named for Floyd E. Owen on December 29, 1959. Mr. Owen, retired as superintendent of the parks after a forty seven year career in the system, was so honored "...in recognition of devoted service." (News Tribune December 30, 1959.).
