Custodial history
In 2000, Tacoma Public Library (in collaboration with Tacoma Art Museum) launched the "Tacoma Time Capsule" project. The project encouraged Tacoma residents to visit TAM or a library branch where they could cut off a lock of their hair, complete a brief form/note, and have the contents sealed together in the glass vial. These vials were to be opened in the year 3000 and were collected in a larger glass receptacle. The larger receptacle was designed to look like a laboratory flask and was created by Jill Reynolds. This receptacle was displayed in the first floor of the Carnegie library building until 2023. Due to a remodel project in the building beginning in 2023, the receptacle needed to be deconstructed. The contents of the receptacle were maintained and remain sealed. Photographs of the original receptacle are available on request.
