Some Tacoma residential and commercial buildings had their windows broken and chimneys knocked off. The recently finished Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company building had many of their windows broken during the earthquake. View of broken windows at the L. ca. 1941. Schoenfeld's department store circa 1941. This photograph was taken shortly after the opening of the store's "Bargain Loft " furniture annex at 1411-17 Pacific Ave. Daley's Garage was in the bottom floor of the annex building to provide additional parking for customers. The main store was located in the landmark Sandberg Building next door at 1423 Pacific, the oldest reinforced concrete skyscraper on the West Coast. Schoenfeld's Furniture occupied the building from 1924 to 1996. The giant letters of the company's name blazed across the building and were visible for miles. Schoenfeld's wanted to reassure their customers that "Your Credit Is Good" by attaching that statement to their building.
