  • Tacoma Yacht Club -founded in 1889, the Tacoma Yacht Club was originally located on Maury Island. A clubhouse was built on the City Waterway, opposite the Commerical Dock, in downtown Tacoma in 1909. The club relocated to the Point Defiance area in 1914, moving the clubhouse to the new site near the current location of the ferry dock. After this site proved vulnerable to winter storms the club moved southeast to its present location. The former office bldg. of the Seaborn Shipyard was moved by scow to the site from 624 East D St in 1923 to serve as the clubhouse. A new clubhouse was built on the slagpile breakwater in 1971. -club officially incorporated 12/17/1908 SEE ALSO: 100 EAST D ST., 624 EAST D ST. SEE ALSO: TPL Catalog/Clipping File
