With the Space Needle looming in the background, the directors of Century 21 met on May 16, 1962. Seattle hosted the 1962 World's Fair with the theme and title of the exposition, Century 21. It featured futuristic buildings, cars, transportation systems and what life might be like in the 21st century. The Fair would open on April 21 and close on October 21. Nearly ten million people would visit to ride the Monorail, climb the Space Needle, see art and industrial exhibits, watch shows, and sample delicacies.
