Scope and content
The children attending a south end community club picnic at Wapato Park in August of 1947 found Wapato Lake to be a great place to have fun and keep cool. Included in this group of children were Lee McCallum, Don Tomlinson, Edwin Tomlinson, Raymond Groms, Edward Roufs, June Neumeyer, Norma Kimball, Chad Kirk, David Thomas, Shirley Secreto and Donald Roufs. Chad (Chadwick) Kirk is the boy at the far right in the photograph. For much of the summer of 1947 the Health Dept. kept the lake closed due to sewage pollution. It reopened in August on a provisional basis until sanitary sewers were constructed in the surrounding neighborhood. (T.Times, 8/15/1947, p.3) TPL-8821
