Scope and content

Weir's Electric & Hardware opened a new location just outside city limits at 8419 Portland Avenue in May, 1953. A large neon sign on top of the multi-windowed brick structure beckoned customers. Owned by Louis Weir, its slogan was printed above the front doorway, "Your Doorway to Better Living". Weir's offered Hoffman and RCA televisions, Bendix and Kelvinator ranges and refrigerators, and was the H.C. Little Heating Headquarters. A full-page ad in the May 8, 1953, News Tribune advertised a "Magic Cycle" defrosting Kelvinator for $339.95, a Bendix 30 inch electric range for $239.95 and a Hoffman easy-vision 17 inch T.V. for $199.95. A Weir's delivery truck is parked toward the rear of the building. Photograph ordered by Louis Weir. (TNT 5-8-53, A-7 -ad, A-6)
