Scope and content
The Northern Pacific Hospital, built in 1904 on land cleared by the NP employees, was one of a string of hospitals built with funds provided by the Northern Pacific Beneficial Association. The building at 801 East Wright Avenue admitted its first patient, a bridge carpenter with a fractured leg, in August of 1905. The hospital closed in 1968 and was demolished in 1973. The Federally funded McKinley Terrace senior housing project was built on the hospital site in 1979 and opened in 1980.
