Scope and content
ca. 1968. A consortium of local and Los Angeles investors, including L.A. businessman Jay Schrack, actor Steve Brodie and Tacoma attorney Robert Rovai, planned to break ground in October, 1968, for their proposed 12 million dollar convention center and open for business the following October. This black and white exposure of the De Chellis & Opava, architects, colored 30" x 40" rendering of the proposed Greater Tacoma Convention Center was dated 4-15-68. The Center included an opera house, hotel and covered sports arena, to be tentatively built on the site of the present Cheney Stadium, 40 acres adjacent to Bantz Blvd. The group had two other potential sites in mind in case the Cheney Stadium site was not feasible. The group was never able to bring their plans to fruition and their design was never built. (TNT 5-28-68, p. 1)
