Scope and content
ca. 1950. Copy of customer's glossy print of the Paradise Lodge, Mount Rainier National Park. The signs over the three doors read, left to right, Paradise Lodge, Cafeteria & Fountain. Late 1940 model Chevy and Oldsmobile parked in front. The Paradise Lodge, constructed of cedar, was opened in June, 1931. It had 35 rooms, a large cafeteria and lobby. It stood for 34 years before being burned to the ground in early June, 1965, in a controlled blaze aimed at making more room for concrete improvements in the park. A new 1.6 million dollar concrete day-use facility would be built nearby. The Paradise Lodge was about one-half mile from the Paradise Inn. TPL-8487
