Anna Roosevelt Boettiger (daughter of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt) with her son Curtis Dall. Mrs. Boettiger was the sponsor for the ship " Cape Alva," launch #1 at Seattle-Tacoma Shipyards. The merchant ship was christened on August 1, 1940, with Governor Clarence Martin and Tacoma Mayor Harry P. Cain in attendance. The vessel was 416 feet long, 37 feet deep with a 60-foot beam. She was the first of five merchant ships to be built at the Seattle-Tacoma Shipyards. (T.Times 7-31-40, p. 18, T. Times, 8-02-40, p. 1)
