Scope and content
Despite dark clouds that threatened a downpour, Miss Vernetta Rowland played hostess aboard the family yacht, the "Irvinetta." The party was in honor of Miss Muriel Veatch, who was the house guest of Miss Jean Hutchinson. The couples gathered on August 24, 1940 at the Yacht Club and cruised to Horsehead Bay. Pictured in the back are Jean Hutchinson and Paul Jueling. Standing in front, left to right, are Robert Marton, Vernetta Rowland, Muriel Veatch and Ben Winchell of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Miss Rowland is the daughter of I.C. Rowland. (T.Times 8/31/1940, pg. 7- picture, 8/26/1940, pg. 9- story)
