Scope and content

Tacomans started 1957 in a generous fashion by donating to the March of Dimes campaign. Here volunteers from the Young Men's Business Club staff a table on Commerce to collect funds in the fight against polio. A dollar is graciously accepted from project chairman George Cairns which will join other bills and coins lined up on the "Mile of Dimes" table. Each weekend while the March of Dimes campaign continues, various charitable and civic organizations will man the special table located on the 11th St. hill between Commerce and Pacific. $200 was collected the first day of operation. From left to right are: Doug Stevenson, Austin Fengler, and future Tacoma Mayor Gordon Johnston. Photograph ordered by the March of Dimes. (TNT 1-6-57, C-12)
