Scope and content
Marcia Woods, College of Puget Sound aviation student, solos at Mueller-Harkins Airport. Miss Woods is the only woman, with 26 male classmates, in "Uncle Sam's" local flying school. She is studying aviation under a program offered by the Civil Aeronautics Authority and will have her pilot's license by January or February. Now in the second phase of her training, she will next study precision maneuvers- spins, figure eights and spirals. She enjoys flying so much that when aloft for the first time, she spontaneously broke into song. When questioned about her vocal feat, she replied that she just couldn't help singing, "It felt so good up there." (T. Times 11/15/1940, pg. 1)
