Jack Jansen, age 14, a Tacoma Times carrier for Route No. 6 in downtown Tacoma, was issued a defense stamp savings book by the Times in August of 1941. The newspaper awarded a savings stamp to its carriers for each new 60-day subscriber they signed up. For every savings book that they filled, they received a $25 national defense savings bond.
