During the summer of 1941, golf pro Ray Ball gave golf lessons at the Highland Golf Course to novice women golfers through a special program sponsored by the W.P.A. Women who had never played golf were encouraged by the Tacoma Metropolitan Park Board and the local public courses to take up the sport. Ray Ball helps an "assembly line" of pupils including (l to r) Helen Veatch, Inga Petersen, Mrs. Paul O. Brown, Mrs. James Enochs, Miss Pat Ostland, Mrs. Augie Seymour, Mrs. Stuart Parks, Mrs. Fred W. Veatch, Mrs. Gilbert Caughran, and Marian Hager. (T. Times 8/15/1941 p.15)
