Scope and content
On September 25, 1941, Sgt. Robert J. Forrest of Tacoma Company C, 4th Washington Volunteer Infantry was photographed with a recruitment poster for the Washington State Guard. He is wearing the uniform that had been recently adopted for use by the Guard. The Washington State Guard was formed in 1941 to replace the Washington National Guard which had been called into active duty. Although 80 men had already signed up for Tacoma Co. C, another 100 were needed to fill out Tacoma's two units. Sgt. Forrest was a coppersmith at the Seattle Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp. He was married and the father of two sons. (T.
