Tacoma Day at the Annual Winter Sports Carnival at Paradise, Mount Rainier National Park. On January 25, 1942, Queen Mary Thomas posed with Rita Hume of Seattle, winner of the Rhodes perpetual trophy for women's slalom. Ms. Hume, 27 at the time, went on to become a War Correspondent for the International News Service and Seattle papers during World War II. She was born on April 25, 1914, and grew up in Seattle. (T.
