Scope and content
As part the celebration of his 70th birthday on March 25, 1960, Wallace E. "Diff" Difford (seated front) and guests boarded a Sea-Tac Airways helicopter. Two curious dogs peered into the helicopter to see him off. Mr. Difford was the longtime managing director of the Douglas Fir Plywood Association (DFPA). In 1938, when he became managing director of the DFPA, he was already known as the "Doctor." He obtained this nickname by leading various businesses out of failure and into the profit side of the ledger. He took on the ailing plywood industry and created a giant.
