Scope and content
On July 3, 1942, Mrs. Herbert Hunt (left), chairman of the Children's Industrial Home, and Estelle (Mrs. E.W.) Demarest inspected some of the vegetables in Mrs. Demarest's victory garden at Interlaaken. Both women were prominent members of the Tacoma Garden Club. Rising food costs were making it increasingly difficult for various Community Chest agencies to operate within their budgets. The Tacoma Garden Club offered to give the overflow from their victory gardens to the Children's Industrial Home. (T.Times 7/9/1942, pg. 3)
