Scope and content
In 1942, Tacoma parking meter collectors used this unique three-wheel cart to collect the nickels from the city's parking meters. On July 9th, the cart got a flat right in front of the Roxy (now Pantages) Theater at 9th and Broadway. Patrolman Ted Strand, pictured, was posted to guard the cart while collectors Lee Nelson and O. Gustafson went to get a patched replacement. With the World War II rubber shortage, the cart didn't rate the expense of new tires. It was the collectors' seventh blow out. (T. Times 7/10/1942, pg. 3)
