Scope and content
Home town boy Bing Crosby arrives at Union Depot to headline a War Bond show at Tacoma's Liberty Center on August 6, 1942 and to entertain troops at Fort Lewis. The super star of radio and films, who dazzled the world with his crooning voice, was born in Tacoma in 1903 at 1112 No. J Street and christened at St. Patrick's Catholic Church across the street. (T. Times, 8/5/1942, p. 1) (Note: Although Crosby stated he was born in 1904, church and newspaper records confirm the May, 1903 date.)
