Jerry Walters of the American Legion, Tacoma Post No. 138, presented Mrs. William (Harriet) Deering of the Pierce County chapter of the American Red Cross a check for $210 on August 11, 1942. The Legion raised the money with activities in Tacoma. The funds were intended to help the Red Cross with their wartime work. At left was Mrs. Morley (Marion) Brotman of the Red Cross and Mrs. C.F. (Beatrice) Davidson, chief of the "Gray Ladies" of McChord, was on the extreme right. WWI veteran Jerry Walters owned Jerry Walters Jewelers in downtown Tacoma. Mr. Walters, a native of Cornwall, England, had settled in Tacoma in the early 1920s. (TNT 8/12/1942 p.11) (Additional information provided by a reader)
