Scope and content

In October of 1942, employees of Richmond Towing pose with a wrecked automobile that they are donating to the city's scrap drive. Tacoma, like the rest of American cities, was assigned an amount of scrap metal that they needed to donate toward the war effort. They had so far been unable to meet their quota. The scrap metal would be used to make instruments of war. The white building that housed Richmond Towing is still standing, but the dark building next door was torn down and is now the parking lot for Tacoma Public Library.
