Scope and content
In December of 1942, the members of the Women's Emergency Motor Corps learn the fundamentals of automobile motors with instructor Tony Falsetta (pointing at engine), shop superintendent at Titus Motor Co. The women are studying a cut-away chassis donated by the Ford Motor Co. Capt. Iris Bryan, head of the Corps, is to the right of the instructor; Leon Titus is to the left front of the picture. In case of an emergency, the Corps would drive the city's ambulances and emergency vehicles. They also needed to know how to repair them. Members of the Corps were given an intensive 8 week course in mechanics, designed to enable them to make minor repairs on the road. (TNT 12/30/1942, pg. 9; T. Times 12/30/1942, pg. 3)
