Scope and content
I'm a Yankee again - and glad of it. Vernon Stewart Cunningham (right), serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, repatriated in the chambers of Judge Charles H. Leavy (left) on Wednesday January 6, 1943. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, he had been raised in Tacoma and was a Stadium High School graduate. Mr. Cunningham had moved back to Canada and joined the Navy there, but after Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, he determined to return to Tacoma and fight for the U.S.A. In 1944, while serving with the Navy in the South Pacific, he was blinded in one eye and lost the practical use of his left hand when wounded in combat. (T. Times 1/7/1943 p.1)
