Scope and content

In 1943, John E. Nagel (far left), Tacoma manager of the Coca Cola Bottling Company, was photographed with several hundred to several thousand "pastime kits" (depending on the newspaper source) donated by the company's head office to the soldiers at Fort Lewis and McChord Field. They could fill their spare time playing with the ten games and cards that were provided in each kit, as well as a memo book, score cards and pencils. Helping load an army truck with kits is Mayor Harry P. Cain (center). (T. Times, 3/5/1943, p. 4; TNT 3/4/1943, pg. 24.)
