Early in March of 1943, Lieutenant Pat Steele, Tacoma attorney and Army officer, hurried home from Fort Riley, Kansas on a short furlough to see his newborn baby daughter Judith Ann for the first time. Judith Ann was born February 28th. Both his wife Mary, pictured, and their other daughter, Joyce Marie age 5, were overjoyed to see him. Lt. Steele was recently promoted to lieutenant in the U.S. Army Cavalry. He entered the officers' training school at Fort Riley on December 14th. After the war he returned to Tacoma where his long career included serving as Pierce County prosecutor, Tacoma City councilman and state representative for the 26th District. (T.
