Volunteer home defense units in Fircrest and University Place were equipped and trained to defend their home territory. By the beginning of April, 1943, firefighting equipment had been purchased and volunteers trained to operate the equipment. Pictured, left to right, are Leo Ashe, Chief of Fircrest Unit, H.J.
